Run of the mill controllers work just fine for hanging out with a group of scrubs friends and frantically beating the hell out of each other, but serious, tournament-ready fighters have to either invest the coin in a well constructed stick, or build one themselves. If your fighter of choice is Mortal Kombat, however, Hit Box says you’re better off with no stick at all.

As we discovered last year, Hit Box manufactures custom controllers for fighting game enthusiasts which eschew traditional joysticks for more buttons. Thanks to Mortal Kombat’s relatively simplistic input philosophy (all directions, no circle movements), the Hit Box is capable of some blindingly fast and accurate maneuvers. Be sure to teleport past the break for a second video showcasing the Hit Box’s capabilities as a destroyer of worlds.

Finally, Sega has something for those of you who love both the PlayStation Move and the f-word. Today, the publisher announced a new PS3 version of the Wii’s utterly vulgar House of the Dead: Overkill, which adds … you know, the usual PS3 stuff: Move support and 3D.

It also adds “two brand-new scenarios,” offering even more opportunities for Agent G, Detective Washington and pretty much everyone else to scream obscenities at you as they shoot at zombies in a B-movie version of Louisiana. Maybe it can reclaim the record!

The Extended Cut will be out in North America on October effing 25, and in Europe three effing days later, just in time for Halloween! Play it nice and loud, and keep those kids away from your house.

Following up on this morning’s news that Sony Online Entertainment servers were offline across the board, SOE announced that it has lost 12,700 customer credit card numbers as the result of an attack, and roughly 24.6 million accounts may have been breached.

The company took SOE servers offline after learning of the attack last evening, and today detailed the unfortunate results: “approximately 12,700 non-US credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes), and about 10,700 direct debit records of certain customers in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain” were lost, apparently from “an outdated database from 2007.” Of the 12,700 total, 4,300 are alleged to be from Japan, while the remainder come from the aforementioned four European countries.

Furthermore, Sony ties today’s announcement directly to the recent attacks on PlayStation Network and Qriocity, and says SOE customer information was stolen on either April 16 or April 17. Sony has repeatedly stated that its PSN servers and SOE servers are not part of the same network, so it remains unclear just how these two attacks are tied together. Head past the break for the full statement from Sony.

Update, 9:03PM EST: SOE has provided us with the following statement, in which it confirms that its user data was stolen as part of the original intrusion — not a second attack. “While the two systems are distinct and operated separately, given that they are both under the SONY umbrella, there is some degree of architecture that overlaps. The intrusions were similar in nature. This is NOT a second attack; new information has been discovered as part of our ongoing investigation of the external intrusion in April.”

When the marketing team at Atlus sat down to evaluate Catherine, the company’s creepy concoction of nightmarish puzzle realms and adult relationships, it established what needed to be done in order to make the game stand out amongst the year’s other offerings: absolutely nothing. But if you’re Atlus, lasciviousness is no excuse to omit lavish special editions!

The “Love is Over Deluxe Edition” of Catherine is delivered in a “Stray Sheep” pizza box, fresh from the haunt frequented by in-game boy toy Vincent. In addition to the game, on either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, the special package contains a Catherine pillowcase, a large shirt depicting a depleted heart gauge, and Vincent’s boxers. (Not boxers with pictures of Vincent on them — Vincent’s dotted underwear that he removed and sent to you.)

The “Love is Over Deluxe Edition” will set you back $79.99 and will be available only in limited quantities. Pre-orders for both the regular edition and special release incur further bonuses in the form of the Atlus-obligatory 11-track music CD and a 36-page Catherine art book.

If you’re already envisioning your perfect evening — lying on that pillowcase in your new shirt and boxers, listening to the soundtrack while you flip through the art book — you might need to take your relationship with Catherine down just a notch. We You have until July 26 to modify and/or hide your obsession.

A Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker clothing line?! Yes, Snake, a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker clothing line. Konami is entering CO-OPS with a company called Musterbrand to produce clothing inspired by, and even based on, the characters and imagery from last year’s PSP game.

The items range from logo t-shirts to replicas of clothing worn by prominent characters — Kazuhira Miller’s shirt is included in the lineup, sans jaunty yellow neckerchief. Perhaps that’ll be in the next release; Konami and Musterbrand plan to update the line “quarterly and surrounding certain special events throughout the year.”

As for the current items: you’ll be able to Peace Walk in game-inspired pants starting April 11, when the first pieces will be available online in North America (probably through Konami.com).

The Plasma Cutter replica included with the collector’s edition of Dead Space 2 is nice and all, but it doesn’t have that overboard extravagance that some people want from their video game memorabilia. Now, these full-size replicas being released next month — there’s some real, substantial money-wastin’.

The $220 replica of the Plasma Cutter from the first Dead Space, and the $240 Dead Space 2 version, are packaged in metal briefcase-style carriers, and have rechargeable batteries to power the realistic “3-blast spot” lighting. The only thing they lack is real cutting power — which is a shame, because at these prices, you’re going to wish for real life-or-death monster battles to justify the cost.

[Thanks, Johnnynumber5!]

Mock it up, talk it up and leak it out all you want, only Sony has the power to actually bring the so-called “PSP2″ into the world — and that moment has come. The “sequel” to the PlayStation Portable was made official today (like, just now!) during a press event in Japan, looking every bit as — well, that thing looks like the PSP, doesn’t it?

Codenamed “NGP” — that’s “Next Generation Portable” Entertainment System — the device has been designed on five core tenets: Revolutionary User Interface; Social Connectivity; Location-based Entertainment; Converging Real and Virtual; and PlayStation Suite Compatibility.

But what does that mean? For starters, the new hardware features dual analog sticks; a 5-inch OLED display (960×544 resolution — 4x the PSP’s); 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS; front touchscreen and rear touchpad (woah!); and, for good measure, the same six-axis motion system that propels the Move, plus a three-axis compass — oh, and we can’t forget the front and rear cameras (those come standard these days). Of course, it plays games, too, which will be offered on new flash memory-based cards (so long UMD!).

The “NGP” is coming this holiday season.

Update:
Complete hardware specs, provided by Sony, are posted after the break.

Japan’s insatiable hunger for Monster Hunter can only be cured with … actual food, inspired by Monster Hunter. Chain restaurant Anrakun is preparing a special menu of four dishes inspired by Capcom’s multiplayer hack ‘n slash, including a “cow bone” (pictured left) and boney sausages (pictured right). These delicacies are not cheap, going for 609 yen each (~$7.38).

These limited-time promotions are quite common in Japan, creating a niche kind of tourism. We’re guilty of taking part as well, having gone so far as to review Monster Hunter-branded ramen.

Forbidden fan technology? Claims of “the fastest car in the world?” Gran Turismo 5′s Red Bull X1 prototype features nearly 1500 horsepower and a 1.4 second zero to 60 time. Thankfully, crashing at over 200 MPH in it won’t be so bad — it’s only available in Gran Turismo 5.
