taizhou-tomb-4

In what has become a very exciting find for archaeologists in China and around the World, a set of coffins from the Ming Dynasty were discovered in the city of Taizhou. The most puzzling part about the excavation is that a female corpse was found to be in perfect condition – the corpse had hardly rotted.

On February 24, in Taizhou city, three coffins were found near Chunlan road. The next day, staff from Taizhou museum rushed to the site and found that construction workers dug a total of three coffins, two close together, separated by only 10 centimeters, and a third coffin was separated from the two by 34 meters.

Museum staff found that the first coffin has been destroyed in the digging, the other two coffins were kept relatively intact. Judging from the method of burial, the museum staff identified the three coffins to be from the Ming Dynasty. The three coffins were transported to the museum to be prepared for further analysis.

On March 1, the museum opened the remaining two intact coffins. Of the two coffins, one was found with the female corpse. Somehow, the corpse did not rot after so many years. The museum staff were surprised. The corpse was so well preserved that the eyebrows were clearly visible and the skin was still elastic.

Zhongguancun Xiaosan Gate Diao Lili sex photos.

Some reports have named this “Zhongguancun Xiaosan Gate” while others have named it “Zhongguancun Sexy Photos Gate“. Zhongguancun is often called the “Silicon Valley of China” and is located in northwest Beijing’s Haidian District.

From Baidu Baike:

Xiaosan Gate

Synopsis: In order to get revenge for an affair, the former wife of an IT company executive recently sent dozens of sex photos involving her former husband and the third party via email to many Zhongguancun companies [a technology hub in Beijing, known as the "Silicon Valley of China"]. The email not only exposed sex photos but also the “xiaosan‘s” true name, mobile phone number, MSN account, address, and many other personal information. According to the email, the “xiaosan” works in a Taiwanese software sales company.

The “wife” who sent this email said in the email that she and her husband had been married for 3 years, that their child is just over 1-year-old. After the child was born, she resigned from a foreign enterprise/company to become a full-time housewife. At first, the couple’s relationship was still very normal, but a little while later, her husband started to not return home at nights. After her husband began treating her coldly, this wife began checking her husband’s cell phone information and sure enough saw nearly 200 flirtatious text messages in his mobile phone. In order to be certain whether or not her husband was having an affair, the “wife” didn’t say anything, and under the guise of a headhunter called the number where the flirtatious SMS messages originated from, adding the other party on MSN, and even becoming “friends” with the other party. To investigate the truth, the “wife” several times even met the “xiaosan” for meals, and every time the other party swiped a credit card to pay the bill. Once while paying after a meal, the “wife” discovered that the pinyin [name] on the black gold credit card was her own husband’s name.

On day in 2010 December, the “wife” stealthily took the “xiaosan‘s” cell phone, and after looking through the text messages the “wife” discovered that the “xiaosan” was maintaining relations with multiple men, and that her own husband was just one of them. Also within the mobile phone were sex videos of the “xiaosan” with different men. After investigating the truth, the “wife” put the cards on the table with her husband, not expecting that though her husband appeared contrite, the “xiaosan” and her husband continued their relationship. This past Spring Festival, she and her husband signed a divorce agreement.

In order to get revenge on her ex-husband and the third party, after the Spring Festival holiday period ended, the “wife” posted dozens of sex photos involving her husband and the third party onto the internet. Amongst the aforementioned sex photos, many Zhongguancun white-collar recognized the female in the sex photos to be the female white-collar worker at the a certain Taiwanese software company in Zhongguancun whose real name had been exposed by the “wife” in the email. Many Zhongguancun company workers have named this incident “Zhongguancun Sexy Photos Gate”.

Putting down a year’s weariness, one out of 10 Chinese people again embark on the road home. Endless waits, crowds of people, filthy air, every part of the journey difficult. The brave people returning home, bear upon their bodies the gray memories of China’s Chun Yun.

Chun Yun is the world’s largest regular migration of people. It occurs every year around the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival holiday. Chun Yun can be translated as “Spring Festival Rush” or “Spring Festival Migration”. Below are some photographs capturing scenes of this yearly phenomenon from 1995 till this year 2011.

Remembering Chun Yun in Gray

“Chun Yun” has been called history’s largest periodic human migration. Within a span of around 40 days, over 2 billion trips are made. Photo is of 2008 where passengers were delayed at the Guangzhou Railway Station due to snowstorms.

China Passport.

From Tianya:

Looking at the rise of China through a map of world passport visa exemptions

From the map of visa exemptions around the world to look at the rise of China

Text: Xu Rongbin

In recent years, Chinese people seem to have had the chance to lift their heads up high. From the top gold medal haul during the Beijing Olympics not long ago to surpassing Japan as the world’s second largest economy, it seem like we are only a few decades from [overtaking] America. In politics, [we are] one of the five permanent members of the United Nations; surpassing Japan as the world’s second largest economy; the successful flight of Chang’e 2 on National Day, while the Shenzhou 8 Spacecraft could even carry enough astronauts to play Mahjong instead of Dou Di Zhu [Mahjong takes 4 players, Dou Di Zhu takes 3], it is said that even foreign experts are constantly saying China is very nuibi. During the Diaoyu Island incident China also changed its previous style, all of the sudden becoming more assertive. and Japan seems to have wised up and became more modest. China’s defense of the Diaoyu Islands also seemed to have gained incremental successes, we quit while we were ahead, maintained good relations with our Japanese brothers. The major actors not only did not show the sense of conceit, but also felt that China had shown modesty and everyone just laid down their arms and continued on with their business. As the old saying goes, happiness can elevate one’s spirits, even a monster can be cute if one is feeling cordial. Beginning with Feng Xiaogang’s Aftershock to Zhang Yimo’s The Love of the Hawthorn Tree, to Xu Ke’s Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, to Today’s Feng Xiaogang’s If You are the One and Jiang Wen’s Let the Bullets Fly, the Chinese domestic film industry seems to have suddenly had a great leap forward up to other countries, almost as if suddenly changing from a mindless fellow to a mature gentleman. This probably filled many people with joy, almost as if we are another step closer to getting an Oscar. At the same time domestically, the military declared “the peaceful rise of China”, while America and other Western nations are colluding to promote the notion of the “threat of a rising China”. From the joyous events it seemed like the sun is coming out of the clouds for China, and the revival of the Chinese nation is at hand. Yet, I’m sorry to say it, but many people do now know, but we have all been duped.

Entering the 21st century, we have long left behind the age of military hegemony, depending instead on economic and mutual cooperation amongst the nations of the world in the age of peace. Domestic and foreign public opinion has continuously emphasized the rise of China, and many Chinese people themselves believe China has already became a world power. So has China actually risen? [To answer this,] we can use world maps of visa exemptions for various countries’ passport-holders to see the true status of Chinese people in the world.

Maserati GranTurismo

The number of Chinese millionaires is growing rapidly, and women account for a third of that rising, affluent population. This is good news to exotic car manufacturers because wealthy Chinese women are snatching them up like Italian pastries.

Sales of high-end automobiles rose 60 percent last year and analysts are already pegging a 35 percent climb for 2011. Maserati reports that 30 percent of its Chinese sales are to women, compared against just 10 percent for European sales. China is now on track to pass Italy as the automaker’s second largest market.

It’s not just Maserati, either; Ferraris and Lamborghinis are being purchased in large numbers. The wealthy women of China account for 20 percent of local Ferrari sales, which is double the global average. The rise in exotic vehicle sales has even gotten the attention of Bugatti, and the Volkswagen Group is now discussing a potential sales plan for China.

As it is understood, the requirements for the materials used in a capsule hotel are very high. From the frames to the accessories, all of them must be fire-resistant, and even “the mattresses are inspected for fire-resistance”. But on the surface, this specially ordered mattress doesn’t look any different from any ordinary mattress.

The owner of the capsule hotel is a Chinese returnee who had studied abroad in Japan. During his study abroad, he worked “undercover” as an attendant/service personnel at a Japanese capsule hotel before he learned everything required from the hardware to the service. According to him, Japan’s capsule hotels only charge by the day, whereas his hotel in Shanghai, instead charges by the hour.

“Just like how Chinese people eat hot pot, where there needs to be a soup base first before choosing the ingredients, our soup base here is 28 yuan, adding 4 yuan if exceeding one hour, capped at 88 yuan per day.” According to this owner, this method of charging was his own idea, and is also to increase profit through frequent turnover. With regards to the television, the owner explained that at present one can only watch movies. “We have a film library that the remote control can be used to choose from, 1 yuan charge for each film.”

This capsule hotel is located at 中山北路1036号 (1036 Zhongshan North Road) in Shanghai.

In 2009, China became the largest auto market on the planet, surpassing the United States. 2010 proved to be more of the same, as China cemented itself as the king of car sales. But while automakers are living the high life in China, the capitol city of Beijing is trying to slam the brakes on new vehicle sales.

The problem, according to a Christian Science Monitor report, is that traffic has become so bad in the densely populated metropolis that the government has banned car sales until an auto sale lottery takes place. That’s right; if you’re in Beijing and you’d like a new car or truck, you’re going to have to put your name in a hat and hope for the best.

The first monthly lottery will take place on January 26. Each will give 20,000 prospective motorists authorization to actually buy a car. So far, a reported 100,000+ buyers have already entered the lottery. China will draw 240,000 names during the course of the year. Customers who sell their vehicle or lose it in an accident will be exempt from the lottery and they’ll be able to keep their plate for a future vehicle purchase. The lottery is expected to help Beijing car sales in half this year, compared to the 850,000 units moved in 2010. To further free up the stifling rush hour traffic, the government has also banned cars with out-of -city plates from traveling on Beijing roads during peak travel times.

The lottery will doubtless slow the pace of car sales, but that won’t do much to solve Beijing’s traffic woes. Motorists and dealers alike tell The Christian Science Monitor that they hope the move to a lottery system will buy Beijing officials the time needed to improve the city’s infrastructure and improve public transportation.

Chinese automotive transport double-decker dual-car loader
Side-by-side double-decker car transporter – Click above to watch video after the jump

Need to carry multiple cars across a long distance in one shot? What if the amount of cars you want to carry exceeds the capacity for your standard automotive transport truck? China apparently has a solution, and it comes in the form of a dual-deck transporter, which is capable of carrying cars side-by-side on its upper load level.

This unconventional piece of heavy machinery was caught on film and it appears almost majestic in the way it rumbles down the road, but we’re quite sure we don’t want to be driving around it when it takes a corner with an excess of speed. Hop the jump to watch a short clip of this beast in action.

There’s not much to see right now, but it appears that Red MR is well on its way to becoming one of the most advanced (and probably the most amusing) karaoke bars in the world. Ahead of its Hong Kong debut this Saturday, said company has already installed six Surfaces in its two bars, and is aiming to fit more to fill up all 80 rooms — and that number could go up to 300 in the near future — once Microsoft has ramped up production. With Red MR’s customized software (still under wraps), customers will be able to pick songs, order food, watch TV, and play games on the Surface while listening to a drunk rendition of My Heart Will Go On. Oh, and there’ll also be a few Kinects dotted around the bars, but it’s not exactly clear whether they’ll be in the rooms as well. Anyhow, we’ll be flying out to Hong Kong to check it out later this week, so stay tuned. For now, you can watch a demo of the Surface’s Liar’s Dice game after the break.

Update: Our friends over at M.I.C Gadget found a video from Apple Daily that teases the karaoke UI. Have a look after the jump.
