Every guitar player in history, no matter how cool he or she might be, has had one fatal flaw — that goofy stringed instrument. Finally, one brave company is liberating rockstars from their leash-like attachment to the thing. Flair’s Air Pick is an oversized guitar pick that features built-in jams like “Satisfaction,” “Born to be Wild,” “Smoke on the Water,” and “Sweet Home Alabama” — you know, the sort of songs you used to have to own a guitar or a funny-looking belt to play. The toys are set to hit stores in the next few weeks, so you may want to hold onto those real life guitars for a little bit longer.

Air Pick finally lets you ditch that dumb guitar originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 06 Jul 2011 22:14:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Apple iPhone 4 Brick Case Compatible With LEGO Brick System |

Its borderline absurdity that  in a way makes this the perfect gift for any LEGO meister. Made from durable ABS plastic, the iPhone Brick Case not only protects your precious Apple iPhone 4 from those inevitable drops and occasional toss. It also performs one function – a portable platform for a quick LEGO build out. Though not officially sanctioned by LEGO, the case was designed to be fully compatible. Now you can be completely and absolutely “geek out” with your very own iPhone charging station (worshiping mini-figures sold separately) or a diorama of Mos Eisley Cantina from Star Wars to boast about your skills while talking on the phone. The iPhone Brick Case is now available on where else but Think Geek.

hot wheels video racer

Strap in and check out the Hot Wheels Video Racer in action – Click above to watch video after the jump

Someone over at DadDoes got their hands on the new Hot Wheels Video Racer toys. If you’re not familiar with the latest from Mattel, allows us to explain. This newest Hot Wheels car is basically a rolling video camera. A lens sits up front, and it’s covered up by a Hot Wheels body. Out back, a USB port allows you to download your footage…um, we mean your kids footage, of course.

The DadDoes reviewer tests out the camera by running the car down a few tracks. The resulting footage is both fast and furious. If you’re prone to motion sickness, you may want to skip this one, but if not, then click past the jump to see the Hot Wheels Video Racer in action. Also, be sure to head over to DadDoes.com for the full write-up on the $59.99 toy-version of a GoPro camera.

hot wheels loop advertisement

Hot Wheels throws Columbia for a loop – Click above for image gallery

Diecast cars are a fun distraction regardless of your age, in fact, we’ve got a few on our desk at this very moment. Hot Wheels may be the king of scale-car fun, but its marketing department likes to think big.

Recently, we saw how it turned a historic Australian building into a 3D racetrack. Now it’s apparently focused its creative attention on Bogota, Colombia. Going low-tech this time, Hot Wheels has placed a giant ‘loop’ in the middle of an overpass.

It’s certainly more eye-catching than a traditional billboard, and it still gets the message across that Hot Wheels are all about fun. Thanks for the tip, Andrew!

Damn kids these days and their cool tech toys! We know we sound cranky, jealous, and old, but how are we supposed to react to Mattel’s new Hot Wheels Video Racer? Yep, just as the headline reveals, everybody’s favorite matchbox car is now home to a VGA video camera that can capture 30 to 60 frames per second and a .95-inch LCD that allows you to play back that recorded footage right on the belly of the tiny vehicle. While a short clip of the Video Racer flying off a self-made jump may be pretty awesome, Mattel will also include protective cases so those wild and crazy kids can mount the cam to a skateboard or helmet. Disappointingly, the small car only houses 512MB of storage, which can only hold 12 minutes of video, but at $60, Mattel also includes a rubberized mini USB to USB cord for connecting the cam to a Mac or PC and child-friendly editing software. The Video Racer won’t actually peel out until the fall, but we managed to take a few shots of the little thing this week and nab some video of it while at CES. Hit the break for that video and start saving that allowance!

Disguised as a mere toy, the original Mindflex is actually a kind of limited telekinesis simulator in that it allows you to control the up and down movements of a ball suspended in air by, well, flexing your brain. With the release of the Mindflex Duel, you can now test your telekinetic prowess against that of your closest friends. That’s right, Mattel’s latest offering allows you to play what amounts to tug-of-war (with a tiny foam ball) using only the power of your mind. The Duel also lets people play cooperatively, but that doesn’t sound like nearly as much fun as hooking this to a stim unit for a little friendly competition and some elevated stakes for the loser. We’re not sure why, but the mind games won’t start until August, though the device is currently available for pre-order on Amazon for $99.99.

It’s Vegas, so it’s not completely unsurprising to see folks like Lady Gaga and T-Pain stopping by unannounced. But seeing the latter over at a Jakks Pacific booth at CES? Not exactly — shall we say — expected. Regardless, T-Pain was most definitely in the house, primarily to showcase his newest $39.99 accessory, the I Am T-Pain microphone. For all intents and purposes, this here mic is your dream come true, enabling you to sing into it and hear it emitted back with a “T-Pain Effect” embedded. In other words, it’s your autotune instrument of choice. There’s a bit of inbuilt memory as well, enabling users to record clips for future hysteria, while also giving them the chance to blend in T-Pain remarks as they rap and offload their favorite clips to their PC. It’s absurd in every sense of the word, making it impossible to pass up. If that makes any sense. Head on past the break for an interview with the man himself, courtesy of our pals over at TUAW.
