One of the secrets to great cooking is to measure out the ingredients as accurately as possible. While dry ingredients are not so much of a pain, it’s the liquids that make me quiver. Handy Meter is a digital measure that goes around the faucet mouth or spouts of bottles and jugs, to pour out the right amount of liquid. It does away with the need for a measuring jar, hence increasing the accuracy. I suppose it has an inbuilt mechanism that terminates the flow of liquid, once the desired amount has been poured. This will be an ideal feature.

This electric bicycle concept is out of this world! The INgSOC, by designers Edward Kim and Benny Cemoli, combines the aerodynamic shapes of triathlon designs, flexible handling of traditional bikes, and advanced hybrid power technology into one super-efficient commuting machine that (to say the least) looks, well… unearthly!

The frame is constructed from carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) for its high strength yield to weight ratio. Adaptability comes from mono-direction reinforcing of the frame, directing stiffness by orienting carbon fiber strains along a projected trajectory.

The battery which powers the motor, integrated front and rear lights, as well as a charging dock for communication devices, entertainment, or navigation is directly charged from the rider’s own energy output to maximize efficiency.

Enough has been said on plugs and sockets and how we can do our bit to save electricity. Another attempt to make the green impact is the Folding Plug; it simply does away with the switch! The plug head itself is the switch. Snap it flush to the wall and the power is on; lever it 90 degrees perpendicular upwards and the circuit gets off. Intuitive and easy but not very furniture friendly I suppose.

This clever table lamp design by Luca Veneri offers an interesting,thought-provoking, and somewhat eerie way of lighting up a room. The mushroom cloud shape, that seems to expand before your eyes, was created using real fluid dynamic simulations to capture the cloud’s true form as closely as possible. An articulate design that is sure to attract a second glance as it builds a powerful symbolic connection with the viewer.

Totally intrigued by the Hydralamp. It has a unique cooling system that extends the LED bulb lifetime to 50,000 hours. The lamp is also an energy saver. It produces the same luminous power as a 20W halogen bulb but consumes only 4W. The lamp casing is made of anodized aluminum and tempered glass totalling 900mm high.

If you have ever hit your thumb trying to hammer a nail, you know the unforgettable, mind-numbing pain that follows. This simple Coral Tools combination houses steel flat-head & Phillips screwdrivers within its hard plastic body & also serves as a tripodal stand that holds nails firmly in the center hole to help get them started, ensuring a straight hit while keeping fingers safe. The 3rd arm also holds a corkscrew so you can enjoy some well-deserved wine after all your hard work.

Inspired by the intrigue of optical art, this pair of bespoke Lexham bedside tables plays with both the user’s understanding and vision, creating the illusion that the flat tiered sections are warping. The legs’ use of acute angles creates a forced perspective that further piques the viewer’s interest. Fabricated from Corian, the thermochromic liquid sheets are laser cut to size and shape. The inlay surface is also temperature sensitive, going through the color spectrum from deep red to dark blue as it responds to hot and cold.

Check out this gorgeous cutlery set modeled entirely in Solidworks. By far, this is the most dangerous cutlery concept I’ve seen and with good reason too. The designer was inspired by the Japanese katana. I can’t tell if they’re weighted properly but I could definitely see them scaled up to be used for BBQ cookouts. Who’s with me?

Beer buddies of mine never use bottle openers; they always use their teeth. I guess it is more of a macho thing to do…. but chipped teeth don’t suit my style. I think Easy Open can be the saving grace. It’s designed on the lines of a can ring; a quick clip maneuver and the bottle cap pops open. If this thing works then I guess even soda bottles should try it.

GEO Magnetic is quite an awesome lamp as far as design thinking goes. The basic lamp is a halo of light that glides up and down a steel rail, using magnetic attraction. The base halo holds a ball shape switch that looks suspended but is held in place using a fine thread. There are three levels of illumination and the electric current flowing into each section varies in intensity, this allows the spherical switch to shift its position to on/off.

Besides being a desk lamp, the GEO Magnetic doubles up as a romantic moodlight when the light halo is glided closer to the base.
