One of the secrets to great cooking is to measure out the ingredients as accurately as possible. While dry ingredients are not so much of a pain, it’s the liquids that make me quiver. Handy Meter is a digital measure that goes around the faucet mouth or spouts of bottles and jugs, to pour out the right amount of liquid. It does away with the need for a measuring jar, hence increasing the accuracy. I suppose it has an inbuilt mechanism that terminates the flow of liquid, once the desired amount has been poured. This will be an ideal feature.

A state-of-the-art automatic juicer now available for home and commercial use
CitrocasaFantastic.jpg

Citrocasa, the Austrian juicer barons, have finally made their premier juicers available stateside. Having dominated the commercial juicer market in Europe, they’ve released a new, significantly smaller product intended for small businesses and residences. It is called the Fantastic, and it is one fine piece of Austrian engineering.

Sporting a rating of 30 OPM (oranges per minute) this juicer is three times as fast as any conventional one. It completely deconstructs for cleaning and features a patented cutting system which prevents any rind from getting to your glass.

Citrocasa-1.jpg

40% smaller than any other Citrocasa model (though still a hefty 55 kg/121 lbs), the juicer’s compact design makes for a dense but space-saving machine. Its sleek, stylish design will complement any kitchen counter. Contact Citrocasa USA for ordering inquiries.

Check out this gorgeous cutlery set modeled entirely in Solidworks. By far, this is the most dangerous cutlery concept I’ve seen and with good reason too. The designer was inspired by the Japanese katana. I can’t tell if they’re weighted properly but I could definitely see them scaled up to be used for BBQ cookouts. Who’s with me?

My mother has this really annoying habit of washing her hair in the kitchen sink. She says it’s a quick-fix when you’re running out of time… I call it being lazy. The downside is that hair usually clogs up the sink and cleaning the sink stopper is plain yuk! I guess it’s for this reason that I love the Crown Pop-up sink stopper idea; the exposed top end stays clean while the root-ish tail end catches the hair and goop. I so need this!

I’m not a fussy tea drinker and don’t give a rat’s tail about blend, brew or steeping, but I have this tea connoisseur cousin who has painstakingly mastered the art of brewing his perfect cuppa. For the impatient and the perfectionists alike, we have the Tesera Teemachine. It is an automated tea machine that dishes out the perfect cup by controlling the brewing time, water temperature and the amount of tea, depending upon the blend being used. This is how it should be!

Nespresso introduces a machine small enough for desks and colorful “capsule” cups
pixie1.jpg

For no-fuss espresso, Nespresso’s straightforward operation and effortless cleanup make their machines the maker of choice for many homes and offices. The Swiss company recently made it even easier to get a fresh brew in just seconds with its Pixie machine, a compact version of the CitiZ that comes in six colors.

Its tiny footprint (just over a foot long) means its small enough to sit on a desk, and an improved heating system takes just 25 seconds to warm up. All that, and the Pixie is supremely energy-efficient too, using 40% less power than other makers like it. (Check out our complete guide to prosumer espresso here.)

nespresso-pixie-cups.jpg

Perhaps even more appealing than the Pixie, Nespresso launched a collection of insulated cups designed to look like their essential espresso capsule. The cups come in two sizes and a rainbow of colors, and (unlike other Nespresso accessories) are free of obvious Nespresso branding.

nespresso-pixie-cups2.jpg

The Pixie currently sells exclusively from Williams-Sonoma in the U.S. for $250, but will sell through the Nespresso site later this spring, when the cups ($30 for a set of two) will be available as well.

I have seen tons of elegant flatware but none of them as ingenious as this! The Magic Spoon is a delightful set of spoons, knives and forks that have built-in clasps at the end. Yes, exactly the hairpin kind! You can cleverly cling it to your plate while clearing out the dishes, seal pouches or simply be this show-off with cool cutlery!

Magic Spoon is a 2010 Kitchen Tools Winner!

The S-Lav Kitchen Sink is 4-step dishwashing process that saves you time and dishwater hands. The first step is the scrap bin for leftover food. The second step is for soaking and step three is for soaping and rinsing. Finally step five is a dish rack for drying. This linear workflow pretty much mimics how everyone washes dishes but the production-line setup makes things move smoother and faster.

1ℓimit faucet looks more like an elegant test tube inverted on top of a tap. The glass tube holds exactly one liter of water, sufficient for a quick handwash. The theory being that we waste almost six liters of water and use only one, while washing hands. Once the stored one-liter is used up, you have to turn-off the tap till the next one liter fills up the tube. A cumbersome rationing process that will hopefully drive home the point of conservation!

An interactive cup that makes drinking sake even more heavenly
moonbowls1.jpg

Designed specifically for the opaque liquids of unfiltered sake or Korean rice wine, these new Moon Bowls put a cleverly beautiful spin on sipping your beverage.

The cups are designed with a small crescent-shaped shelf inside. Filling the glass starts you off with a full moon but—providing you sip and don't chug the milky potable—the liquid contents wane down to a crescent sliver.

The glowing glory of a filled cup gives you more than the excuse of thirst for popping the bottle again. They come in white and black and sell from Compact Impact for $25 each.
